Brookline High’s girls soccer team lost 2-1 to Needham at Skyline Park on Thursday, Oct. 15, narrowing the margin against a conference opponent that beat the Warriors 5-0 earlier this season.
The result lifted Needham to 9-1-1 overall. The Rockets stand No. 5 in the MIAA Division 1 power rankings released Oct. 16, while Brookline is No. 15.
MaxPreps confirmed Thursday’s score and lists the Warriors at 6-4-1 overall and 4-3-1 in league play. MIAA’s rankings show a different overall record of 5-4-1.
Needham also won the teams’ first meeting, shutting out Brookline 5-0 on Sept. 9, according to the Warriors’ schedule.
Thursday’s loss followed Brookline’s 3-0 victory over Weymouth on Oct. 8. Haley Ament scored twice and added an assist in that win, while Lyla Thomas contributed a goal, according to MassLive’s Oct. 14 Bay State Conference rankings, which placed the Warriors fourth in the conference.
The Weymouth victory ended a three-game scoring drought that included losses to Newton North and Wellesley and a scoreless draw with Natick.
Brookline next travels to Belmont on Saturday, Oct. 17, for a 5 p.m. match. The Warriors then visit Framingham on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 4:30 p.m.
