Brookline High boys soccer claimed the No. 1 spot in the Bay State Conference power rankings after a great start to the 2026 season.

MassLive's Kyle Grabowski published the updated rankings Wednesday, Sept. 16, slotting the Warriors at the top with a 2-1-1 record and a 6-4 scoring edge through three games. Brookline leapfrogged preseason No. 1 Natick and No. 2 Needham to take the conference's top ranking.

The climb is steep.

Brookline entered the season ranked third in MassLive's preseason BSC poll after finishing 8-6-7 last year. The Warriors had allowed more goals than they scored during the 2025 regular season. They caught fire late, reeling off a 7-2-4 run that carried them to the Division 1 quarterfinals as the No. 21 seed. Concord-Carlisle ended that run with an overtime win on Nov. 14, 2025.

This fall, Brookline is outscoring opponents instead of chasing them. The Warriors opened with a 1-1 draw against Cambridge Rindge & Latin on Sept. 8, then beat Braintree 4-1 on Sept. 11. A 1-0 win over Milton on Sept. 15 pushed the record to 2-0-1.

Meanwhile, defending Division 1 state champion Natick has stumbled to fifth at 0-2-1. The Redhawks opened with a 6-1 loss to Wayland and managed just one goal across their next two games against Lexington and Framingham. Nate Kingscote scored the lone Natick tying goal in that stretch.

Needham (1-1-1) sits second after a 4-0 win over Weymouth offset an opening loss to Oliver Ames. Newton North (0-0-2) holds third with two draws, and Framingham (1-1-1) is fourth. Braintree's Okan Dervisoglu has scored two goals in two games for the No. 7 Wamps.

Brookline hosts Walpole on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 4 p.m.
