Brookline High field hockey shut out Needham 2-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 7, at Harry Downes Field, stretching the Warriors' winning streak to three games.
Molly Schroder and Zoe Arthur each scored for Brookline, with Ellie Haberkern picking up both assists, according to the team's account on X.
That's three wins in a week.
The shutout capped a strong stretch for coach Emily Hunt's squad. Brookline beat Arlington 3-1 on Friday, Oct. 2, then blanked Weymouth 5-0 on Monday, Oct. 5, before handling the Rockets on Oct. 7. The Warriors designated the Needham game a "shoulder check" game day, a mental health awareness initiative promoted by the program.
Brookline's overall record improved to 6-4-2 with a 2-4-1 mark in Bay State Conference play, according to MaxPreps. The Warriors have outscored opponents 23-11 this season and are 5-1 at home.
Needham entered the game at 3-6-1, according to the MassLive box score. The Rockets sat seventh in MassLive's BSC midseason rankings at 3-5-1 before the loss.
Those same rankings, published Oct. 7 before the game, had slotted Brookline sixth in the conference at 3-4-2. MassLive noted the Warriors had "earned just one win in September" and "settled for multiple ties." Brookline has now won three straight since the rankings were published.
Elsewhere in the BSC on Oct. 7, Walpole fell to Milton 2-1, according to MassLive's statewide roundup. Walpole is the three-time reigning MIAA Division I state champion and entered the night ranked first in the conference at 7-1-1.
In MIAA Division I field hockey, the top 32 power-rated teams qualify for the state tournament regardless of record, according to the Boston Herald. The Herald's Oct. 2 top five listed Lincoln-Sudbury, Walpole, Bishop Feehan, Belmont and Franklin. Brookline's exact position in the power rankings was not available as of Oct. 8.
Brookline hosts Weston on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 4 p.m. The remaining regular-season schedule includes home games against Newton North on Oct. 21 and Wellesley on Oct. 26, and road trips to Natick on Oct. 19 and Newton South on Oct. 23.
