Brookline's youth soccer, lacrosse, and flag football leagues face potential changes to how they book town fields this fall, with the Park and Recreation Commission set to vote Tuesday, July 14, on an updated organized sports policy.
The vote, scheduled for 8:05 p.m., comes two weeks after the July 1 deadline for fall season field permit applications. That timing means any policy changes will directly shape field scheduling for the September-through-November season, when youth organizations compete for limited grass and synthetic turf time across Brookline's parks and school grounds.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. and is accessible in person or via Zoom (Meeting ID: 165 346 6369, call-in: 646-828-7666). Public comment is limited to two minutes per speaker, and written comments can be sent to [email protected].
The commission has not released the text of the proposed revisions. The current Town-Owned Outdoor Athletic Field and Court Use Allocation Policy establishes a tiered priority system: town programs and schools get first access at no charge, while youth organizations with 100% Brookline residency pay $20 per hour for grass fields and $40 per hour for synthetic turf. Non-resident groups pay triple those rates. The policy also requires organizations to verify full Brookline residency through official rosters and attend an annual Field Users Meeting to retain permits.
Commission Chair Clara Batchelor will lead the panel through a packed agenda that also includes Fiscal Year 2028 Capital Improvement Plan presentations for parks and recreation facilities beginning at 6:15 p.m.
The Brookline Record will report on the vote outcome when results become available.
