The Brookline Planning Board held a public hearing on proposed zoning and related warrant articles headed to the Nov. 17 Special Town Meeting.
A video of the hearing was posted by Civic Brookline on Monday, Nov. 2. The board reviews zoning by-law amendments before they go to Town Meeting for a vote, according to the town's Planning Board page.
Zoning amendments in Brookline require a two-thirds majority vote at Town Meeting to pass, according to the town's zoning amendment process page. They must then be certified by the state Attorney General.
The amendments are initiated by the town or by resident petitioners and come up for a vote twice a year, in May and November.
The Nov. 17 Special Town Meeting warrant includes at least 20 articles. Among those listed in an Advisory Committee agenda packet are Warrant Article 4, a budget amendment to reduce the reserve fund and add funding to the Claims and Settlements Fund for legal-fee reimbursement; Warrant Article 8, which would ban public meetings on election day; Warrant Article 17, a resolution on Community Preservation Act funding and the Affordable Housing Trust; and Warrant Article 20, a resolution in support of Vision Zero.
Dennis Doughty chairs the Advisory Committee, which holds its own public hearings on warrant articles before making recommendations to Town Meeting. The committee accepts written public comments sent to [email protected] by noon on the day of each meeting.
