Djuna Perkins won more Brookline votes than any other candidate in the Norfolk County district attorney race on Tuesday, Sept. 1, but the countywide race remained too close to call.

Perkins, a former prosecutor and attorney who represents survivors of sexual abuse, collected 3,924 votes in Brookline. Adam Deitch, a federal prosecutor, finished second in town with 2,211. Five other candidates each received tallies in the three figures, Brookline.News reported.

No winner had been declared as of 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. WATD 95.9 FM described it as still a "tight race" on Wednesday, Sept. 2.

Perkins had strong local backing heading into the primary. Select Board Chair David Pearlman and member Bernard Greene both endorsed her before the election. Greene said in an Aug. 31 Brookline.News interview that Perkins stood out by engaging directly with Brookline officials and residents. "Early on in the process, she reached out to Brookline residents and officials and presented herself and what her plans were with respect to the DA's office … No one else did," Greene said.

The seven-candidate Democratic primary will determine who replaces longtime District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey, who announced in January 2026 he would not seek reelection after serving since 2010. The winner will face independent Joe Pagliarulo, a Millis attorney and former state prosecutor, in the Nov. 3 general election. Norfolk County includes Brookline and 27 other communities, and the Democratic primary is expected to be decisive in the heavily Democratic county.

Other races on the ballot

Sen. Ed Markey won 6,496 Brookline votes to Seth Moulton's 3,910 in the U.S. Senate primary. The Associated Press and CNN projected Markey as the statewide winner shortly after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Rep. Jake Auchincloss won 6,912 Brookline votes to challenger Jason Poulos's 3,169 in the 4th Congressional District. He will face Brookline Republican Tom Stalcup in November.

Incumbent Mara Dolan took 72.5% of the Brookline vote in the Governor's Council District 3 race against Margie Palladino. The Associated Press called the race for Dolan late Tuesday. In the Republican primary for governor, Brookline voters chose business leader Mike Minogue over Brian Shortsleeve. Minogue won statewide and will face Gov. Maura Healey in November.

Brookline's four state representatives and state Sen. Cindy Creem ran unopposed. Turnout topped 10,000 voters, higher than 2024 but similar to 2022 levels.

Updated results are expected as Norfolk County completes its count.
