Brookline High's ground game overwhelmed Lexington in a 46-6 road win Thursday, Sept. 17, improving the Warriors to 2-0.

Senior running back Jonathan Cartwright set the tone early, scoring on each of Brookline's first two drives. He finished with three touchdowns and 89 yards on eight carries before the second unit took over in the second half, MassLive reported.

"We have a deep running back room, and we know it all starts up front," Cartwright told MassLive after the game.

The offensive line, which features multiple new starters this season, gave those backs plenty of room to work. Brookline ran the ball 19 times for 237 yards and six rushing touchdowns on the night, controlling the line of scrimmage throughout.

Cartwright had help. Sophomore Nathaniel Myers added 72 rushing yards and a touchdown. Leo Torres extended the first-half lead with a 25-yard scoring run. By the midpoint of the third quarter, Brookline led 40-0 and a running clock took effect for the rest of the game.

Even with the outcome decided, quarterback Brendan Bottiglieri provided one of the night's highlights during the running-clock second half. He kept on a read option and won a race to the sideline for a 45-yard touchdown.

Head coach Chad Hunte told MassLive his running backs deserve the credit. He said they have no egos and do not care who gets the ball. The results showed it: six different rushing scores from a backfield that shared carries all night.

The 2-0 start means Brookline has already surpassed its entire win total from 2025, when the Warriors managed just one victory. That turnaround now sets up a Week 3 showdown with Watertown, which is 1-0 this season. The Raiders beat Brookline 35-0 last year, a loss the Warriors have not forgotten.

Hunte said the team would enjoy the win for 24 hours before shifting focus. He called Watertown a very good and very well-coached team, adding that the Raiders will be ready and it will be a great game.

Lexington dropped to 0-2 with the loss. The Minutemen visit Bedford in Week 3.
