Brookline will try to snap a three-game losing streak and finish its eight-game playoff qualifying schedule at .500 when it visits winless Wellesley on Friday, Oct. 30.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Wellesley High School. The Warriors enter the Bay State Conference matchup at 3-4, while the Raiders have lost all seven games on their schedule.
Brookline opened 3-1, beating Newton South 31-9, Lexington 46-6 and Hopkinton 13-10. Since then, the Warriors have fallen to New Bedford 42-6, Natick 27-6 and Framingham 50-29, according to their MaxPreps schedule.
A win Friday would improve Brookline’s record, but it would not guarantee a state tournament berth.
The Warriors ranked 28th in the MIAA’s Oct. 23 Division 1 power ratings. The tournament accepts the 16 highest-ranked eligible teams. Brookline already meets the minimum requirements of three wins and seven games played, but its power rating determines whether it makes the field.
The qualifying cutoff is Saturday, Oct. 31. Brackets are scheduled for release Sunday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m., according to the MIAA tournament format.
Wellesley is seeking its first victory after a 37-14 loss at Natick on Oct. 23. The Raiders’ previous four defeats came against Walpole, Weymouth, Framingham and Newton North. Each of those five losses was by at least 20 points, according to the team’s schedule.
Against Natick, Wellesley trailed 37-0 before scoring twice in the second half. Adonyce Greer finished a lengthy third-quarter possession with a 10-yard touchdown run. Will Peng later broke loose for 58 yards and scored from two yards out in the closing seconds, MassLive reported.
Friday gives Brookline a chance to halt its slide before tournament selections and Wellesley an opportunity to earn its first win.
