A Massachusetts State Police aircraft was scheduled to fly low over the Larz Anderson Park area on Friday, Aug. 14, as part of a planned demonstration, Brookline Police announced in a same-day advisory posted on X.

The department alerted South Brookline residents ahead of the flyover, which was set for approximately 11 a.m. Brookline Police described the activity as a scheduled demonstration and said there was no cause for alarm.

No details were given.

The advisory did not specify whether the aircraft was a helicopter or fixed-wing plane. The Massachusetts State Police Air Wing operates Eurocopter AS355 helicopters from three bases across the Commonwealth, according to the agency's specialized units page. The unit handles search and rescue, airborne surveillance, support for large public gatherings and tactical incidents.

Neither department provided additional detail on the demonstration's purpose. The MSP Media Relations office, reachable at (508) 820-2623, did not respond to inquiries Friday, Aug. 14.

Brookline Police issued a similar heads-up in April when the department notified residents that a planned drone deployment would take place near Brookline Avenue and Longwood Avenue on April 7 and April 9. That advisory noted residents might be able to both see and hear the drone.

Friday's notice followed the same proactive approach, giving residents advance warning of unusual aerial activity over the 64-acre park, Brookline's largest.
