Brookline Police are asking residents to help identify two teenagers captured on surveillance footage the night of a larceny in the town's village area.

The incident occurred Wednesday, July 15, shortly before 11 p.m., according to a Patch report relaying the department's bulletin. Police have not disclosed the exact location within the village area or what was stolen.

Both suspects are described as males in their late teenage years. The first had long hair styled in dreadlocks and was wearing a red hat, a dark-colored t-shirt, red athletic shorts, and red slip-on shoes. The second was wearing a red t-shirt, gray sweatpants, and black shoes.

The department stressed that neither person is considered wanted at this time.

Police are seeking identification only.

The appeal, published Monday, Aug. 3, comes nearly three weeks after the reported incident. It is the latest in a string of public identification requests from the department this summer. On July 7, Brookline Police issued a separate bulletin seeking a male suspect described as wearing a white Champion sweatshirt in connection with a Coolidge Corner larceny. Another appeal sought a woman aged 50 to 60 with blonde hair connected to thefts at Whole Foods and Sephora on Beacon Street.

The three cases involve different suspects, different locations, and different dates, but together they illustrate a pattern of property crime that has kept Brookline detectives busy this summer.

The uptick in public appeals tracks with a broader rise in theft across town. Shoplifting arrests in Brookline nearly doubled over the past year, according to a June report from Brookline.News. Chief Jennifer Paster said in that June 3 report that the department was "kind of seeing pretty steady shoplifting numbers, and not for basic needs. More for resale."

Trader Joe's and CVS Pharmacy in Coolidge Corner and TJ Maxx on Harvard Street were among the hot spots Paster identified.
