Brookline for the Culture will host a free Hispanic Heritage Month celebration on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Hunneman Hall in Brookline Village.
The event runs from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at 361 Washington St. and features music, food, cultural activities and a family film screening. Organizers are asking attendees to register in advance through Humanitix so they can plan for food, activities and venue capacity. Tickets will be scanned at the door.
The afternoon lineup also includes educational programming, entertainment and chances to connect with local community organizations, according to the town's event announcement.
Brookline for the Culture, known as BFTC, said in its event listing that the celebration aims to honor the culture, history and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities. The organization described the afternoon as open to all ages and backgrounds.
BFTC is a Black woman-led organization that started in 2020 with Brookline's first Juneteenth celebration. The group now runs cultural events throughout the year, including celebrations for Pride, Arab Heritage Month and Hispanic Heritage Month.
The organization hosted a Juneteenth carnival at Cypress Field in June, sponsored by the Town of Brookline and Brookline Recreation. The Oct. 17 event continues BFTC's pattern of free cultural programming in public spaces across the town.
National Hispanic Heritage Month ends Oct. 15. The Brookline celebration falls two days after the observance officially closes, though organizers frame it as part of the broader commemoration.
Admission is free. No registration deadline has been announced, but advance sign-up is requested. Registration is available online.
