Brookline High School's 2,147 students will follow a staggered two-day schedule when classes begin Thursday, Sept. 3. Ninth-graders arrive first, with upperclassmen joining later that morning.

The school posted its official first-two-days schedule on Thursday, Aug. 27. Here's what families need to know.

Thursday, Sept. 3: Day 1

Ninth-graders assemble on Greenough Street at 8 a.m., then move into a convocation running 8:20 to 9:10 a.m. The roughly 499 incoming freshmen get the building to themselves for that first hour.

After convocation, ninth-graders have a tutorial period from 9:20 to 10:45 a.m. Tenth, eleventh and twelfth graders arrive for their own tutorial period starting at 9:50 a.m. Eleventh-graders have a separate assembly from 10 to 10:45 a.m.

Six shortened academic periods (A1 through G1) run from 10:55 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. Each lasts about 25 minutes. Lunch is split during the C1 block, with students assigned to one of two groups based on their class subject area.

Lunch 1 (eat first, then class): English, English Learners, Social Studies, World Language, Tutorial and SWS.

Lunch 2 (class first, then eat): Math, Science, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Career & Tech, and Wellness.

Friday, Sept. 4: Day 2

The day starts earlier. A Z1 period runs 7:30 to 8:13 a.m., followed by a T period from 8:20 to 9:15 a.m. During T period, ninth and eleventh graders report to Advisory while tenth and twelfth graders attend Assembly.

Six academic periods (A2 through G2) follow from 9:22 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. Each runs about 38 minutes. The split lunch shifts to the D2 block, but the same subject-area groupings determine which lunch session a student attends.

What families should know

The lunch assignment stays consistent across both days. Students in math, science, performing arts, visual arts, career and tech, or wellness classes eat during the second lunch window. Students in English, social studies, world language, tutorial or English Learner classes eat first.

Brookline High, located at 115 Greenough St., enrolled 2,147 students in 2025–26, according to Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education data. That included 499 ninth-graders, 535 tenth-graders, 584 eleventh-graders and 519 twelfth-graders.
