Brookline families planning to send a child to kindergarten next fall can get a walkthrough of the enrollment process at a virtual information session the district has scheduled for Wednesday, December 9, at 6:30 p.m.

The Public Schools of Brookline's Office of Registration and Enrollment announced the session on the district's news page. Simultaneous interpretation will be available in Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, and Spanish.

Who should attend

The session is open to the general public. Families with a child enrolled in the Brookline Early Education Program, known as BEEP, or receiving special education services through BEEP should have already received a separate invitation from the Office of Registration and Enrollment for a dedicated event, according to the district.

What the session covers

The district said the event will guide families through each step of kindergarten enrollment and answer questions. PSB's registration webpage outlines a six-step process: verify residency, register online through the Aspen system, attend enrollment meetings, receive a school assignment, attend school meetings, and complete the kindergarten application.

Formal pre-registration runs from January through June before the fall start, according to the district's registration page. The December session gives families a chance to understand requirements before that window opens.

How to sign up

Families can register through a Google Form linked on the PSB news page at psbma.org. The district has not specified which virtual platform will host the meeting.

Screening and special education

Under Massachusetts special education law, PSB screens all incoming kindergartners for disabilities that could affect their educational progress, covering cognition, language, and motor skills. Families with questions about that process can raise them at the December 9 session or contact the Office of Registration and Enrollment directly.

What's next

PSB operates eight K-8 schools across Brookline. The formal pre-registration window for the 2026-27 kindergarten class opens in January 2027, though the district has not announced a specific start date.
