rookline residents can review plans to replace the Davis Path Footbridge over the MBTA Green Line’s D Branch at a virtual design public hearing Tuesday, Oct. 20.

The hearing runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Registration is available through the town’s calendar listing.

Proposed accessible crossing

The project would replace the pedestrian bridge with an accessible shared-use crossing. Plans include an elevator and stairs on the north side and stairs and ramps on the south side, according to MassDOT’s hearing notice.

The crossing would connect the northern and southern portions of Brookline Village and accommodate pedestrians, cyclists and people with limited mobility.

The town also says the project would restore a connection in its pedestrian network and provide accessible access to the adjacent Boylston Street Playground.

The existing bridge was deemed unsafe and closed in April 2020, according to the town’s project information.

Cost estimates differ

Public records contain different preliminary estimates.

MassDOT’s project database lists an estimated contract cost of approximately $7.6 million. A Boston Region Metropolitan Planning Organization record from March 2026 lists an adjusted cost of approximately $15.9 million.

The hearing notice does not specify a construction start date or a finalized funding package.
