Brookline High field hockey beat Braintree 2-0 on Wednesday, Oct. 28, closing the regular season with a road shutout in Bay State Conference play.

The Warriors finished 12-6-2 overall, according to MaxPreps. Braintree dropped to 7-8-3.

Brookline closed the year on a strong run. The Warriors won five of their last seven games, beating Framingham, Westford Academy, Newton North, Newton South and Braintree during that stretch. Their only losses in that span came against Natick and Wellesley.

On the season, Brookline outscored opponents 39-18, per MaxPreps.

Junior goalkeeper Anna Sooben has been a steady presence in net. She had recorded 72 saves as of a Sept. 24 MaxPreps stats update, a figure that does not reflect games played since.

The win matters for postseason positioning. The MIAA will release one more set of power rankings on Friday, Oct. 30, with a cutoff date of Sunday, Nov. 1. Official state tournament brackets will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m., according to MassLive.

In MIAA Division I field hockey, the top 32 power-rated teams qualify for the state tournament regardless of record, according to the Boston Herald. Brookline's specific power ranking has not been published.

Lincoln-Sudbury held the No. 1 spot in the most recent MIAA power rankings, followed by Franklin, Belmont and Acton-Boxborough, per MassLive.

The Oct. 28 game was the last on Brookline's regular-season schedule. The Warriors now wait for the bracket release to learn their tournament seed and first-round opponent.
