Brookline residents can get a free flu shot at Baker School on Thursday, Sept. 24, the first stop in the town's annual fall vaccination series.
The clinic at Baker School, 205 Beverly Road, runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and is open to anyone 6 months and older. Both standard flu and high-dose flu vaccines will be available at no cost. The high-dose vaccine is recommended for residents over age 65, according to the Brookline Department of Public Health & Human Services.
Attendees should bring an ID and any health insurance or Medicare cards. Wear short sleeves or a loose-fitting shirt.
Three more clinics follow in October
The Baker School clinic is the first of a four-site fall schedule. Three more free flu clinics are planned:
- Sunday, Oct. 4, 9 a.m.–noon. Brookline High School STEM Building, 115 Greenough St. Flu and high-dose flu vaccines available. Walgreens Pharmacy will also offer COVID, shingles and RSV vaccines at this location.
- Wednesday, Oct. 7, 4:30–6:30 p.m. Driscoll School, 725 Washington St. Flu and high-dose flu available.
- Tuesday, Oct. 13, 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Brookline Town Hall, 333 Washington St. The department's website lists this date, though the format of the session has not been confirmed.
The department urged residents in a Facebook post on Sept. 8 to schedule appointments at one of the community clinics.
Homebound program available
Residents who cannot leave home because of a medical condition or disability can request an in-home flu vaccination. A caregiver or family member must schedule the visit on the resident's behalf.
The department, which John Kleschinsky directs, said the flu vaccine helps prevent serious illness and reduces the risk of hospitalization from influenza. The department recommends annual flu vaccination for all residents 6 months and older.
