A cab crashed onto the Green Line B Branch tracks near the Allston Street stop in Brookline on Saturday, Sept. 5. The MBTA suspended trolley service and ran shuttle buses while crews cleared the wreck.

The incident happened shortly after 8:30 p.m., Universal Hub reported. The taxi left Commonwealth Avenue and ended up on the inbound rails near Allston Street, a stop along the B Branch corridor that runs through Brookline. A Universal Hub photographer was near the scene and captured a photo of the cab sitting on the tracks.

CBS Boston reported the taxi appeared to crash into a trackside fence by the Allston Street stop.

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) pulled B Branch trolleys from the area and ran shuttle buses between Washington Street and Babcock Street while crews responded. A tow truck was called in to winch the cab off the tracks. Workers also had to repair the fence, which the cab had pushed onto the outbound tracks.

Boston EMS was called to evaluate the cab driver for possible injuries. Neither outlet reported an update on the driver's condition.

The cause remains unknown. Universal Hub noted the driver "for some reason jumped" from Commonwealth Avenue onto the tracks, but no explanation from police or the MBTA appeared in either outlet's coverage.

Neither Universal Hub nor CBS Boston reported how long the service suspension lasted or when full B Branch service resumed. No public MBTA statement about the incident had appeared in either outlet's reporting as of Sunday, Sept. 6.

The Allston Street stop sits on the Boston-Brookline line along Commonwealth Avenue. Riders who depend on the B Branch through Brookline's stretch of the avenue were left waiting for replacement buses on a Sept. 5 evening.
