Brookline voters can cast ballots starting Saturday, Aug. 22, at three locations ahead of the Sept. 1 state primary, which features contested races for Norfolk County district attorney, U.S. Senate and the 4th Congressional District.
All three sites are open Saturday, Aug. 22, and Sunday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.:
- Brookline Town Hall, 333 Washington St.
- Coolidge Corner Library, 31 Pleasant St.
- Putterham Library, 959 W. Roxbury Pkwy.
Starting Monday, Aug. 24, early voting moves to Town Hall only. Weekday hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, the final day of early voting.
Voters can use any location regardless of home precinct, according to the Town Clerk's office. Fifteen-minute parking spots are available on Holden and Washington streets near Town Hall during weekday hours.
Mail ballot deadline: Tuesday
Residents who prefer to vote by mail must request a ballot by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, at BrooklineMA.gov/VoteByMail. Completed ballots must reach the Town Clerk's office by 8 p.m. on Election Day, Sept. 1, either by mail (postage-paid envelopes are included) or via drop boxes at Town Hall, Coolidge Corner Library or Putterham Library.
Voters who requested a mail ballot but haven't returned it can still vote in person during early voting or on Election Day. The town has procedures to ensure only one ballot is counted.

What's on the ballot
The Sept. 1 primary includes a seven-candidate Democratic race for Norfolk County district attorney. The race follows longtime DA Michael W. Morrissey's January announcement that he would not seek reelection after serving since 2010, according to Brookline.News. The Democratic primary is expected to be decisive in the heavily Democratic county, which includes Brookline and 27 other communities.
The ballot also carries a Democratic U.S. Senate primary between incumbent Ed Markey and Rep. Seth Moulton, and a 4th Congressional District primary between incumbent Jake Auchincloss and challenger Jason Poulos.
Voter registration closes Saturday
Saturday, Aug. 22, is also the last day to register to vote for this primary. Residents can register in person at the Town Clerk's Office in Town Hall from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or online at the Secretary of State's website until 11:59 p.m.
The Town Clerk's office noted that ballot colors have switched for this election: Democratic ballots are blue and Republican ballots are red. Check the header to confirm you have the correct party ballot.
On Election Day, Sept. 1, all Brookline precincts will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
