Brookline's Select Board votes on nearly $2.5 million combined in public works contracts and a police vehicle lease Monday, Aug. 31. The agenda also carries the first public presentation of a senior needs study and a closed-door session on the 26 Pleasant Street development.

The largest item is a $1,869,490 contract with N. Granese & Sons for water service line replacements across town, according to the meeting agenda. The board will also vote on a $416,151 lease with Santander for six police cruisers over three years and a $143,925.33 extra work order with Nu-Pipe, LLC for additional materials and labor on the Tannery Brook Drain Rehabilitation Project on Beacon Street.

Researchers from the UMass Boston Gerontology Institute are scheduled to present findings from a community needs assessment of Brookline residents aged 60 and older. The town's Council on Aging launched the study in February with UMass Boston, using interviews, focus groups and a town-wide survey that closed March 31. Brookline's older adult population now exceeds 13,000.

COA Director Emily J. Williams wrote in the August Brookline Beacon newsletter, published July 31, that the assessment was complete. "We look forward to presenting the final findings this fall …" Williams wrote at the time. Monday's meeting is that presentation.

The board will also discuss potential warrant articles for the Fall 2026 Special Town Meeting, which begins Nov. 17. The agenda includes a review of responses to the board's invitation for warrant article proposals.

In executive session, the board plans to discuss the purchase, exchange, lease or value of real property at 26 Pleasant Street under state open meeting law. The site is where Nordblom Company has proposed a seven-story, 96-unit apartment building to replace a private parking lot in Coolidge Corner. The project would raise the maximum building height from 40 to 85 feet on the 0.58-acre parcel, according to public materials analyzed by Bushari.com.

Town Meeting is expected to consider zoning changes for the project in November. Select Board member Anthony Buono said during an Aug. 1 community walk on Pleasant Street, as reported by Brookline.News, that he expected "some type of community give back, not just through revenue, but also through hard tangibles."

Other agenda items include three Public Works hiring requests, a change of manager application for the Arcadian Hotel at 1200 Beacon St., interviews for the Park and Recreation Commission and a correction to Andrea Brue's Planning Board reappointment to a five-year term.

The board also enters executive session on collective bargaining strategy with AFSCME. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m.
